  1. Tell us who you are!

My name is Emma Storbacka, and my official title is Business Development Director at a Nordic company called Avaus. (www.avausmarketing.com).

  2. Tell us more about your career steps and other projects you were part of!

I have been working for Avaus for 4 years, and before that I did a couple of years as a management consultant at Capgemini Consulting. At Avaus I am in charge of one of our offerings. I have also relocated to Sweden to support setting up our Swedish operations. At Avaus I get to contribute to a rapidly growing business in an exciting and innovative field, which I feel is motivating and fun. The best part of my work is to see the growth of people – working for a fast paced and growing business is not always easy, but you the feeling you get when you understand and learn new things is so cool, and you can really see how people are motivated and driven by that passion for learning. And contributing to that in other people is something that I feel really strongly about.

  3. What makes you successful in life/current job?

I think that I am very direct, very curious and very passionate about what I do. Those can also be bad things in some contexts, but in general they are the things that I think have helped me advance in my career to date.

  4. What skills, experiences or incidences helped you to get you to where you are today? What hindered?

I think that the biggest contributing factor has been that I have been an active scout leader since I was 13. So in fact I have been given a chance to practice leadership from a very young age. That is the biggest impact I would say on who I am today from a professional point of view.

  5. What are your aspirations as a 1World Mentor for the 1World Social Capital Program?

I would love to connect and mentor someone who wants to develop their own leadership. I have had a mentor once, which was very valuable for me, and I would love to pass that on. I also think that being a mentor is also about receiving – you learn about yourself by talking to other people, and that is part of the greatness of Mentor-Mentee relationships.

  6. What can you offer your 1World Mentee?

Mentoring sessions online. Support regarding career choices, self development, leadership development and building a personal brand by standing up for yourself, claiming space and owning a topic or issue that you are passionate about.

  7. What does your ideal 1World Mentee look like?

    Ambitious, curious and driven.
